Late Roman tubular nail-cleaner. The copper alloy nail cleaner is probably incomplete, but consists of circular sectioned handle which is decorated with wide cross-hatching. The upper end is narrowed and undecorated with a broken upper edge. Below the handle ther nail cleaner gradually becomes oval in section and tapering in depth. It is undecorated and the terminal splits into a V-shape with a groove that travels vertically for a short while.
The surface of the nail cleaner has a mottled dark green abraded patina.
It measures 43.02mm long, 4.18mm wide, 3.43mm diameter and weighs 1.89g.
A similar example is illustrated in Crummy (2001: Figure 3) and categorised as an Early South-Western type, dating to c. AD 50 to 70. Although the recorded example does not have a upper knop or loop.
