A fragment of a grey ware vessel of Roman date, c.AD 43 - 410. The fragment is a rim and body sherd from a shallow dish or bowl. The fabric has a dark grey core with a patchy orange exterior surface. The texture is hard, fine and sandy.

The sherd is 53.6mm long, 57.7mm wide, 9.9mm thick and weighs 46.9g. Overall diameter: 20cm (projected using rim chart); approx.7% remaining.

'Greyware' describes various types of locally produced pottery that were made in many different areas of Britain. They are one of the most common type of pottery found on Roman sites in Britain.
