Incomplete cast copper-alloy purse bar fragment dating to the Medieval period, c. 1400 - 1500.

The item retains the side bars and central boss, though the looped pendant is missing. The side bars are cylindrical in profile and emerge from a 'V' shaped moulding connected to the central boss. One of the side bar terminals is broken, showing a partially hollow interior. The opposite side bar terminates in a circular knop.

Attached to the bottom of the side bars are two tabs with sewing holes drilled into their length. They both show the remains of three holes per tab.

The central boss is a cub shape with rounded edges, and there is a large drilled hole through the vertical plain, which would have held the pendant loop.

The surface of the purse bar is decorated with incised linear motifs. The side bars feature a double cross-hatch pattern, and the central boss shows a large 'V' on one face and a small cross-hatch section in the centre of the opposite face.

The 'V' shaped mouldings from which the side bars emerge are also decorated with incised lines.

Dimensions: weight: 59.99g, width: 131.1mm, height (including side bar tabs): 13.9mm, height of boss: 12.2mm, thickness: 14.9mm
