Lead spindle whorl. Cast whorl of plano-convex form with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.2mm, Walton Rogers form A1. Shrinkage lines in the upper surface as cast suggest the object was made in an open mould. Patinated, and distorted by subsequent impact. The ample hole may point to an Anglo-Scandinavian date while the mass suggests a primary function plying cord. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-1000.
