A fragment of a post-medieval (c.1650-1700) four-part lead cloth seal, consisting of a square inner part ('disc' two or three) only. A fragment of connecting strip survives projecting from two opposing edges. It has a depiction to one face only, a letter V or perhaps a harp within a rope-like border. Several annulets are visible in the field surrounding the V/ harp, and within it are raised horizontal ribs (depiction of harps mroe usually have diagonal ribs filling the shape). It measures 15.2x13.2mm, is 0.9mm thick and weighs 1.20g.
A similar harp, but with diagonal rib decoration, can be seen on a cloth seal with a triple harp design in Elton 2017; 51, and on a cloth seal in record NMS-411B97. The three-harp design was produced in Exeter between 1671 and 1681 (Egan 1994, no.8).
An example of a four-part cloth seal with square inner parts can be seen in Egan 1994, no.9 - also from Exeter and dating to the late 17th century.
