An incomplete Post-Medieval copper alloy harness pommel, probably dating to c. AD 1500-1700. One half (divided along the longitudinal median line) of a domed, hollow cylinder, terminating in a small knop at its apex. At its base a small projecting arm, probably perforated, has been lost. The pommel is decorated with incised, double stranded bands which curve around the circumference from the apex, terminating in a double-stranded collar.
Dimensions: Length 66.2mm; width 35.9mm; thickness (radius of cyinder) 16.3mm; weight 27.4g.
A complete example can be seen illustrated by Read (1995: 84, fig. 4), such pommels are typically dated to the Post-Medieval period. cf. also SOM-7D382C, CORN-F3DF02, amongst others on this database.
