An incomplete copper alloy Late Iron Age/ Early Roman simple one-piece or Nauheim derivative type brooch dating to circa BC 100-AD 43

The pin is missing and some of the curls of the spring along with the catchplate. The head consists of two spring coils extending into the cord above, it is possibly missing two further coils that would have extended into the pin on the other side of the head.

The top of the bow extends forward from the coils at an angle of 90 degrees. In profile the bow is broadly 'C' shaped. The lower half of the bow is slightly broader than the upper half. The bow extends to a broken terminal and the catchplate at the reverse is only partially remaining. Mackreth (2011) illustrates similar brooches on Plate 1, these date from the late Iron Age to Early Roman period.

The brooch measures 51.2 mm in length, 16.1 mm in width, 9.8 mm in thickness and weighs 7.5 grams.
