A ?base silver/ copper-alloy tinned finger ring of keeled type dating to the third or fourth century AD. The finger ring possesses an oval hoop which is rectangular in section. The hoop expands to form the flat triangular shoulders which are decorated with marginal grooves and notches. The bezel is circular in plan with an integrally-cast raised setting, which is incised with three triangles. The internal ring diameter (lengthwise) is 20mm and 18mm (vertically). The external ring diameter is 24mm lengthwise and 22mm vertically.
Parallels are recorded by the PAS including GLO-875043 and GLO-EF3774. A similar finger ring was found at Lydney Roman Temple, Gloucestershire,which was dated to the late third century to fourth century AD (Wheeler and Wheeler, 1932, 82, 55), whereas an example excavated in the town of Cirencester (McWhirr, 1986, 105-106) was dated to the third century. A third example was excavated from a grave in Colchester where the deposit was dated to c AD 320-c450 (Crummy, 1983, 49-50).
