An incomplete Post-Medieval (AD 1650-1700) Toy petronel/gun. The gun consists of the barrel, with the stubs of an iron trigger mechanism which project both above and below the position of the lock. Some of the long cylindrical barrel is missing. It is cast in one piece with a groove along the top edge to accommodate the iron mechanism, mentioned above. The external surface is decorated with two rivets at the centre and the remains of blue paint can be clearly seen.
The form resembles that of toy petronels or cavalry pistols reported from London, where a 17th-century date is suggested (Forsyth and Egan 2005, page 97, no. 1.39).
