Copper alloy knife end cap or stop of 16th century date. Cylindrical with a rectangular slot housing the corroded remains of the knife tang whcih terminates in an old break just beyond the stop. On either side of the slot is an engraved rectangular fanel framing an engraved saltire cross. The top exhibits an engraved line star (asterisk).
A number of similar knife caps dating to the 16th century are recorded on the PAS database including: KENT-054F5D, LVPL-079519, PUBLIC-503387, NMS-2E5E73Z and LIN-565693.
