A complete gilded copper alloy furniture fitting, stud or mount, of probable Post medieval dating (AD 1600 to AD 1800).
The mount consists of a domed square mount, decorated with a raised cross design. The arms of each cross extend down the sides, with a raised triangle over each corner. The recesses still exhibit some gilding. On the back, a circular sectioned attachment spike extends from the top of the mount. The attachment spike tapers to a sharp point. The reverse image of the cross is visible on the inside of the dome.
It measures 13.8 mm in height (including spike), 7.0 mm (not including spike), 15.9 mm wide and 16.3 mm thick. It weighs 3.0 g.
The mount is a mid green with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
