An incomplete, copper alloy, Late Medieval- Post Medieval, scabbard chape, AD.1400-1600. The chape is formed from a single sheet of copper alloy that has been rolled to form a conical shape, a rivet hole is present at the wide end of the cone, to secure it to the leather scabbard or sheath. The closed end of the chape has been formed by cutting the sheet into triangles and pressing them shut. There is some damage at this end of the chape that has resulted in the loss of some of the closure. The top of the chape is also damaged around the edges. Chapes such as this were common on small dagger sheathes in the 15th-16th century for Ballock and Rondel daggers amongst other types.
