Cut farthing of a silver long cross penny of Henry III (1207-1272), Long Cross coinage (1247-1272), probably from Classes I - IV, as the inscription on the obverse appears to begin at 12 o'clock. From Class V onwards the inscription begins at 10 o'clock. The legends are very worn, but the letters hEN are visible on the obverse and ONE, with the O ligatured with the N, on the reverse. This arrangement appears with the mints of Exeter, Oxford and York. The Exeter mint was active during the production of Classes IIa-IIIc, and Oxford and York were active during the production of Classes IIb-IIIc, so the coin dates from Class IIa to IIIc, c.1248-1250.
