A complete copper alloy prick or 'rivet' spur dating to the Roman period (c.AD 200 - 410). The object comprises two D-sectioned arms that terminate at either end in a flattened disc, which is perforated with an iron rivet in each in order to attach the spur to its strap. Between each disc and arm is a rectangular collar and a T-shaped collar immediately underneath with a central raised ridge running along each arm. In the centre of the object each arm meets at a central sub-lozenge plate with a D-sectioned hook projecting down at a right angle to the two arms. An iron filled rivet hole is present at the centre of the plate. The upper and lower edges of the plate are decorated with bifurcated relief decoration, the lower of which the hook extends. The object has a curved profile, allowing it to fit around a heel.
