An incomplete flint debitage blade of probable later Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 6500-2400 BC. The surviving fragment is a tertiary blade of a heavily patinated pale grey flint, missing both the proximal and distal ends and with one of these breaks unpatinated. Three parallel negative removal scars run longitudinally down the dorsal face, there is no evidence of retouch.
Dimensions: length 20.4mm; width 11.6mm; thickness 2.2mm; weight 0.72g.
It is difficult to date lone flakes with confidence, however the neat blade technology visible on this fragment would be characteristic of flint work in the later Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. That this blade is notably more patinated than other flint recovered in the vicinity may also be of note.
Three further similar flakes of debitage were found in late 2018. Again two were heavily patinated. All three were sections of longer blades with some modern breaks through the patinated surface as well as older breaks. One is a secondary flake with cortext covering half the dorsal face. Two were of mid-grey flint, one of dark grey-black. Total weight 13.84g.
