MOUNT

Unique ID: KENT-60CC01

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A heavily worn copper-alloy floral mount of 15th-17th century date

Description: The mount is formed of two sets of opposed trefoil lobes, one set vertically opposed the other horizontally opposed, in the form of petals or leaves. Flora detail, usually picked out on such much with a border in relief as well as floral and vegative motifs also in relief within each of the lobes is not visible due to wear and corrosion. The back is undecorated with a long tapering square section shank remaining intact. Both one of the lobes and the shank have been bent.

Measurements: 22.53mm long, 18.63mm wide, 10.22mm thick (inc shank, 2.15mm without) and 2.52g in weight,

Discussion: Mounts such as this are relatively common finds and a similar example is illustrated by Brian Read (2001, 32. no.252), dated to the 15th-17th centuries.
