Roman copper alloy bow brooch of T-shaped type and of 1st or 2nd century AD date
The brooch is fragmentary, represented by the head and top of the bow only (with a surviving length of 17.9mm, a surviving depth of 11.5mm and a weight of 10.0mm). The missing pin was hinged within oval-sectioned tubular wings, now truncated on one side (with a surviving width of 37.9mm and a diameter of 6.1mm x 7.2mm). The fronts of the wings were decorated with vertical ribs and grooves, now largely lost through corrosion. Iron corrosion at the terminal of the intact wing suggest an iron axis bar was used. The bow is expanded at the head, with curved mouldings each side of the bow (giving a width of 12.5mm). The small fragment of surviving bow is of oval section with no decoration now surviving. Remnants of a dark-green patina survive on protected areas of the surface.

Class: T-shaped type
