Lead weight, probably of medieval or post medieval date
The weight is complete or near-complete, of circular form and of rectangular section (29.5mm diameter and 10.2mm maximum thickness). The upper face is decorated with a cross in cast relief; the cross is enhanced with pellets at the end of each arm and with a central pellet. One quadrant of the edge of the face has a raised border, which may be miscast or truncated in the other quadrants. The base of the weight is has a few irregular depressions but is otherwise flat. The weight currently weighs 47.42g, equivalent to 1.67 ounces (0.1045 pound). The weight is broadly consistent with an eighth of a pound under the English Troy System (equivalent to 46.65g) in use after the mid-14th century or also an eighth of a pound under the Avoirdupois System (equivalent to 53.25g) in use from the late 13th century.

Notes:

Circular weights with crosses, either cast in relief or depressions can be paralleled with examples excavated in London (Egan, 1998, nos. 988, 996) from mid to late 14th century contexts.
