A copper alloy probable Early Medieval to Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) openwork mount in zoomorphic form dating from about AD 1000-1100. It is most similar to Urnes style objects. The mount is sub triangular with two of the three points being an animal head with a short snout and moulded long pointed oval ears. Behind each of the two surviving heads is a circular rivet hole filled with the corroded remains of copper alloy rivets. Each element then divides to form two strands of interlance in a symetrical knot. Loops of this knot form a rounded projection in the centre of each side of the roughly triangular mount. The third point is broken. It is not clear whether it had a similar beast head terminal, or whether it extended into a larger element; it forms the line of symetry, so could be longer while preserving the aesthetic scheme of the object. There is no rivet hole in this third arm. The back of the object is less rounded than the front. The mount has a grey green patina which is damaged in places. It is 23mm long, 29.9mm wide and 3.7mm thick. 4.87g.
No identical object has yet been identified, but the mount has many similarities with a suite of objects that includes WILT-B0C48A, IOW-A556B1, WILT-CF8956 and SUSS-D20C8F. These are cruciform rather than triangular, but share the openwork knot, the animal heads and the rivet holes. They are thought to be Urnes style mounts.
