Cast copper alloy double looped (spectacle) buckle of probably medieval or post-medieval date (1350-1650). The buckle frame is complete - in plan it is sub-rectangular (broadly a figure of eight) with a slight integral cast central bar to which a pin is attached. The pin is formed from a length of copper alloy which is wrapped around the mid-point of the central bar. There is no evidence for a recessed pin-rest on the frame. The frame of the buckle tapers and expands along its length; the narrowest part is at the junction with the central bar - at this point a small projecting knop is present on teh upper and lower external edges. There are no areas of decoration present and the buckle is relatively plain. There is also no evidence of any applied surface - such as tinning. The reverse of the buckle is also plain and undecorated. The buckle is a mid brown green colour with an abraded patina which covers all surfaces. Movement in the ploughsoil has resulted in the buckle becoming asymmetrical, and slightly bowed in profile. Similar examples to this buckle can be seen in Ross Whitehead's book 'Buckles 1250 - 1800', pages 52-53, a close comparison is example 295

The buckle measures 32.6mm long, 19.3mm wide, is 3.8mm thick and weighs 4.27 grams.
