A Post-Medieval lead container, probably an inkwell or candlestick holder, probably dating to c. AD 1600-1800. The object is circular in plan, with slightly sloping sides and a central depression, U-shaped in cross section, at the apex. The walls of the container are decorated by a triple-stranded, circumferencial band, in low relief, with the central line being wider and more pronounced. The base, walls and central depression appear to be made of separate pieces of lead.
Dimensions: length 75.4mm; width 72.4mm; thickness 39.7mm; weight 286g.
A number of lead containers identified as probable inkwells can be seen recorded on this database, with them being variable in their form and quality. cf. LANCUM-638B77, LANCUM-9347A7, SWYOR-1F2B64, LIN-FC1594.
