An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle of Meols type 8, dating c. 1250-1400. Only the frame survives, the pin and plate missing in old damage. It is broadly oval in plan, with an offset strap bar, curving sides and thickened outer edge to the frame, the latter being decorated with four projecting sub-rectangular lobes (the outer two curved). Preserved in good condition with an even green patina, it measures 21.99mm long, 17.15mm wide, and 2.81mm thick at the midpoint of the frame. It weighs 2.29g.
For a parallel, see Egan (2007) p. 91, nos. 528 and 534, which are practically identical.
