A copper alloy tumbrel dating to 1200 - 1500. This folding balance for weighing coins was formed from two arms which pivot in the middle allowing the balance to be opened into a cross shape to be used, or folded flat. One arm includes an integral pan and weight and this passes through the wider arm. The pan is 12m x 11mm and has a ridge on the sides nearest and furthest from the hinge and the weight is angled to form the hinge and is square in cross section and is held in place by a pin through the body of the wider arm. The wider arm which contains the hinge is decorated with a zoomorphic moulding at the upper terminal and is damaged at the lower end. The reverse of the wider arm is hollow to allow the smaller arm to fold into it. Length wider arm 58.61 mm and the pan and weight arm is 61.83 mm.
