A rather abraded ceramic rim sherd of Samian ware originating from a probable high sided bowl, dating c. 50-250 AD. The sherd is broadly rectangular in plan, with a a lightly curving section and small projecting rim.The sherd is extremely worn on its sections, with the slip having been completely worn away in these areas. It demonstrates an inner slightly pinkish orange fabric, covered on its main front and reverse faces with a dark reddish slip. Some light rilling marks are visible on the interior surface. Preserved in fair condition, the sherd survives to a length of 49mm down its longest axis, 34.71mm wide at its upper edge and 6.40mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 16.25g.
