An almost complete copper-alloy composite strap end of Medieval date, circa AD 1300-1500.
The object is broadly tongue shaped with a broader upper edge that narrows to a rounded knop terminal. The object comprises of a strap end that has a sheet spacer occupying its whole width. The plates have riveted together. There is a separate central circular copper-alloy rivet with a flattened round head at the attachment end which has been placed off centre.
The upper part of the strap end is an inverted triangle. This narrows to a rounded knop. Above which at the neck there is a curved cut-out on both sides. This forms two semi-circular shapes either side. There is a small amount of decoration located at the broader attachment end. This consists of two parallel incised bands around the circumference. The upper edge is decorated with a series of small repeating incised diagonal notches. There is some damage to one of the long edges of the object. It has a brown coloured smooth patina across all surfaces.
This strap end measures 60.52 mm in length, 16.24 mm in width, 4.16 mm in thickness and weighs 15.2 grams.
Egan and Pritchard (1991) illustrate similar composite strap ends and illustrate No. 100 that is dating to AD 1350-1400.
