An incomplete post Medieval (c.AD 1500 - 1700) copper alloy saddle pommel.

Description: This remaining half of the pommel is convex and semi-circular in cross-section, any attachments are missing from the historic break. The surface design is linear with four doubled lines travelling from the centre of the dome to the rim. There is another doubled line across the break edge on the longer side and another across the perimeter. There is no decoration on the inner side of the object. There is also a small knop in the centre of the dome, halved by the split.

Measurements: Height:58.14mm, width:34.57mm, thickness:1.47mm, weight:19.02g.

Discussion: The pommel consisted of two U-shaped pieces soldered together. The halves would have been riveted to a wooden protrusion in the front of the saddle frame and would have been used to secure the reins.

This has a similar design to PAS database: PUBLIC-C25112
A similar example, Devon is illustrated in Read, B, 1988, p. 127, no. 808.
