Medieval buckle (late 12th to the late 14th century): The copper alloy single looped buckle frame is an ornate oval with the strap bar having an integral buckle plate. The sides of the buckle frame are convex on the exterior and concave on the interior, and the edge, opposite the strap bar, is thickened and has moulded oblique notches on the upper face. The buckle plate is an elongated triangular which is incomplete and has a hole in the centre by the strap bar which is where the pin is fixed. The pin is missing. The buckle plate has a rivet hole.
The buckle frame and plate has a dark green coloured patina, otherwise there are large patches of red copper corrosion. It measures 22.89mm long and 14.24mm wide across the frame. It weighs 2.71g.
Egan and Pritchard (2002) dates similar shaped buckles without buckle plates (Nos. 314 and 312) to the late 12th to the late 14th century.
