The fabric is mid orange with some fine quartz temper. The exterior is decorated with white slip interrupted by four turned parallel lines at the top and indented ovals with dignal scratches across them below. A yellow glaze over all appears brown on the inside and areas where the slip has been removed.
This form of decoration is typical of South Somerset ware of the late 17th to 19th centurys altough the scratched ovals are slightly unusual.2018-01-05 13:45:532018-01-09 12:13:38411Certain113636PAS5A4F8191001B5053913SOMCeramic10539Wheel madeFragmentPOST MEDIEVALPMx41047p0gjgrs6sgxPOST MEDIEVALPMx41047p0gjgrs6sgxChance find during metal detectingCircaCirca88113410578103011049541427Restricted AccessST4017ST41NWShepton Beauchamp CP101643107SOMF8191B.jpg10579589PotsherdThe Portable Antiquities Scheme4images/andrewwilliams/South WestCultivated landEuropean RegionCountySomersetDistrictSouth SomersetCivil Parish50.9534-2.84908Restricted AccessReturned to finder97653
