A penny of Edward II (class 11a2 or 11b1, unknown mint) dating to roughly AD 1311-1314. Edward is commonly known as Edward of Caernarfon due to his being born in the large castle that is attached to the town.
The coin is very worn and most detail has been obliterated, except for the cross and pellets of the reverse.
Obverse:- (for type) Stylised head of Edward II, legend around '[+E]WAR[ANGLDNShYB]'
Reverse:- A cross reaching from the centre to the edge, quartering entire flan, with three pellets in each quarter. Legend around '[C]IVI/[TA]S/[...]'.
