Unique ID: SOM-E34851

Object type certainty: Certain

Post medieval cast copper alloy button with integral shank and incised design of a flower on the front. The button is circular. It has a flat front and back. The front has a design of a six petaled flower with pointed stamens, within a plain line outer border, the petals are faint but the stamens very clear. The back is rougher with an integral shank running across almost half of the width. The shank is a tab, roughly broad D-shaped in profile with a large circular hole drilled through it. The hole is now mostly filled with concreted soil. The button is 15.0mm in diameter, 8.5mm in thickness (including the shank) and the weight is 2.89g.

A very similar example is illustrated by Read (2005:34), no.120, dated to the 17th to 18th centuries. See also SOM-DBDFD5 and SOM-1F1CC3 on this database and SOM-E43376 found nearby.
