An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy harness fitting (c. 1250-c. 1400).

This object represents the basal element of a 'banner' type suspension mount, whereby a stem through the collar would have been free to rotate. The object has a collar with a central aperture now incomplete. Beyond this feature is a vertically aligned sub-rectangular loop. It is likely that a strap would have been threaded through this loop.

The object is reddish brown with traces of gilding.

Length: 23.8mm; width: 12.0mm; thickness: 8.5mm. Weight: 3.20g.

Compare with other examples: BH-34CE94; IOW-7B620A; NMS-665801; NMS-EB85C8 and WAW-6EFF92.

Similar objects have been published (Griffiths 1986: 4, refs: 22, 34 and 24).
