An incomplete cast copper-alloy fragment originating from a tanged knife of probale Middle Bronze Age date, c. 1550-1150 BC. The tip of the handle and most of the blade are missing in old damage. The handle has raised flanges at its sides and flares outwards down its length, with the remains of a circular aperture visible at its upper edge. The side-flanges disappear with the start of the blade, which is broadly lenticular in section with slight raised ribs at each side, truncating irregularly around a third of the way down its original length as a result of old damage. Preserved in fair condition with a somewhat coarse brownish patina, it survives to a length of 43.69mm, 21.07mm wide at its widest point, and 2.23mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 8.95g.

Similar tanged knives can be found illustrated in Rowlands (1976: refs. 1142-1152), see also SUR-027FDC and DOR-761B1C for similar objects on the PAS database.
