WEIGHT

Unique ID: YORYM-E0BBEC

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete lead-alloy weight of uncertain date, probably medieval to Post-Medieval c.AD 1500 - 1800. The object is circular in plan with a central circular perforation and raised rim. The object is undecorated.

The metal is a dark brown colour. The object is 35.1mm in diameter, 11.6mm thick and weighs 85g. The perforation is 10.4mm in diameter.

The dating of lead objects of this general type is problematic, and their use is invariably uncertain. The term 'weight' is used here in its broadest sense to include uses that do not involve weighing (e.g. holding-down, tensioning, etc.). They were probably mostly used as net weights, loom weights.
