A possible post medieval copper-alloy tobacco jar lid handle possibly dating to the 17th to 18th century. A human head possibly representing a male of African ethnicity appears on the tip of the handle but the surface is slightly worn. Several handles from tobacco holders decorated with African heads have been recorded on the PAS database, e.g. WMID-BA849D and SWYOR-F721A9, although this object is quite different in overall shape. It has also been suggested that this object may be a pipe tamper. Green-brown patina. Dimensions: 39.7mm diameter; 19.2mm width at top; 9mm thick at base; weight 17g.
