UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT

Unique ID: SOM-A7457B

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An unidentified copper alloy object, possibly Early Medieval to Medieval in date, c. AD 1000-1100. The object is an elongated lozengiform plan, tapering from pointed shoulders to a worn and abraded point, probably a break. This section of the object is plano-convex or sub-triangular in cross section. Above the shoulders the object narrows into a waist, prior to expanding into terminal which is sub-trapezoidal when viewed from above. In thickness the object tapers from the shoulders into the flat terminal. The object has a curved profile.

Dimensions: length 54.6mm; width, at shoulders 10.5mm, at waisted section 7.2mm, at terminal 13.0mm; thickness, at shoulders 5.3mm, at terminal 2.8mm; weight 9.96g.

The object is highly abraded, and any idenitification must remain tentative, however, whilst lacking the more elaborate cast decoration of these latter examples, in terms of its general for the object can be compared to a series of currently unidentified objects thought to be of early medieval date, cf. SWYOR-B436F5 and SWYOR-B436F5.
