A copper-alloy, coiled finger ring dating from the late Iron Age to the early Medieval periods (c. 200 BC to AD 800). The ring is formed of a circular sectioned rod, which tapers in thickness over a single coil. One end of the rod has a rectangular sectioned terminal while the other tapers (or is broken) to a point. Coiled, or spiralled finger rings occur from the Bronze Age through to the early-medieval period. However the rod from which the finger rings are formed generally have a flat or D-shaped cross section, whereas this example is circular sectioned. It is possible therefore that this is a finger ring formed from another object, such as the shank of a pin.
