A fragment of cast tap handle, of late Medieval to Post-Medieval c.1400-1600.
Description: A thick, flat trilobate handle, resembling a fleur-de-lis, with a ragged broken base. Each lobe has heavily bevelled edges, leaving them a flat low hexagon in cross-section. The upright lobe has gently flaring sides and a low pointed upper edge, and has a stamped hand on it, probably a maker's mark. The tap is heavily patinated dark green.
Measurements: 41.91mm wide. 31.01mm high, 3.78mm thick and 17.43g in weight.
Discussion: This object closely resembles, both in shape and bevelling like the handles of complete taps CORN-A0BB42 and CORN-A0F7E1. Although this example is much larger, the close resemblance would make a tap the most likely candidate for this object.
