An incomplete copper alloy continental plate brooch dating to the Roman period (c. AD 80-250). The brooch is lozenge shaped, with a circular knop extending from each corner. Each knop has a ring and dot motif in the centre. Within the centre of the main lozenge shape are five slightly raised annulets arranged with one in each corner and one in the centre. These annulets and the space around them appear to have been filled with blue enamel. On the reverse of the brooch is a double lug pin fitting, which still holds the remains of the pin, and at the other end is the remains of a small semi-circular catch plate. A similar example can be seen on the database: SF-52323C.
