THIMBLE

Unique ID: SUSS-A114A4

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A copper-alloy thimble, probably dating to the 14th-16th centuries. The thimble is tall, but the rounded top has been broken off. The broken edge is very irregular and badly worn. The indentations in the thimble are circular. The indentations have been arranged in what appears to be a spiral. This thimble appears to have been cast as one piece. The thimble does not thicken around the base. The copper alloy is in fact very thin. It is worn and the metal has lost much of its original surface.
