A copper alloy Roman Colchester Derivative brooch of Polden Hill variant, AD c. 75 - c. 175. The bow has been broken off half way along its length and is bent slightly off to one side. The foot, pin and catchplate are missing as well as part of the head loop and the reverse of the wings. There are traces of silvering that appears to have covered the entire surface. The wings are hollow and the hinge bar would have been held in place within a the cylindrical wings but they are broken, so the hinge bar is missing and the inside of the wings is exposed. Each wing terminates with a semi-circular end cap. The bow is decorated with linear grooves. At the head of the brooch is the remains of a head loop. cf. Hattatt, 2000, p. 301.
