Lead inkwell, as kindly identified by the finder. A cast hollow vessel with a sub-rectangular base and converging indented sides with a half-round cylindrical moulding at each corner. The top is perhaps knife trimmed and features an irregular oval aperture with a three probably intentional nicks in its edge to rest a quill. Patinated. The base is now lightly indented and bears scratches which might include graffiti, of which a small chalice-shaped feature is perhaps the most convincing. Patinated. Suggested date: Late Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1400-1600.
