A copper alloy thimble dating to the post-Medieval period c.AD1620-1799.
The sub-conical thimble is circular in plan with the sides tapering down towards the base. The indentations are in a regular pattern: on the sides, they are in concentric circles whilst on the top they are in a spiral form. There is a small plain border around the base
The thimble has been flattened on one side making measurement of the diameter not possible. There is a small perforation on the top in one of the indentations. Holmes (1999, fig.7c) identifies this type of thimble as a cast Dutch Type III or English thimble dating between 1730-1800.
