A lead alloy weight of uncertain date. The weight is crudely conical in shape with a small lipped suspension hole slightly off centre at the wide end of the cone, which is concave. It is an off-white colour, mottled with patches of brown and has an irregular surface being extensively gouged and pitted. There is a gash evident partway across the wide end, which maybe the result of plough damage. It weighs 183.9gms, with a diameter of 34mm at the wide end, is 30mm in height and the suspension hole has a diameter of 5mm
Weights can be hard to date; due to being a functional artefact, forms and styles do not alter significantly over time. Weights such as this have been used from Roman through to post-medieval times. Numerous weight related functions are likely for objects such as this, for example; steelyard weights, standing weights, net weights or fishing weights.
