An incomplete flint blade or blade-like flake of prehistoric date, probably Late-Mesolithic to Neolithic, c. 7000-2400 BC. A tertiary blade, with no surviving cortex, of a yellow-brown flint. The surviving fragment comrises of the distal end of the flake, and exhibits no clear evidence of retouch. The dorsal face exhibits scars from three previous, parallel blade-like removals.
Dimensions: length 22.5mm; width 18.7mm; thickness 2.5mm; weight 1.09g.
Dating a single undiagnostic flake with any degree of certainty is impossible, as despite its parallel removals, such features may not be intentional. With this in mind a broad date range is suggested, although the characteristics of the flake could suggest a late mesolthic or Neolithic date.
