A struck flint flake of probable Prehistoric date, potentially utilised as an expediency tool. An irregularly shaped tertiary flake of opaque black/grey flint. A striking platform survives at the proximal end with a diffuse bulb of percussion, but no 'lip' below the point of percussion. The distal end is lost to a natural break, but with probable use related wear on this edge. A number of irregular hinged removals on both the dorsal and ventral face appear more likely to be associated with later damage.
Dimensions: length 35.7mm; width 34.7mm; thickness 7.5mm; weight 11.50g.
Dating a single undiagnostic flake with any degree of certainty is impossible, especially when fragmentary, as here. The thickness and breadth of the flake would probably suggest a later prehistoric date.
