An early Post Medieval toggle-clasp, probably used as a sword belt fitting, dating between 1550 -1700. The fitting consists of a convex moulded relief plate with transverse ridged collar and a debased trefoil knop. 2 circular rivet holes are positioned at either end of the plate and some iron corrosion suggests that the missing rivets were composed of iron. One end has a transverse and grooved collar and a circular eye with sub-rectangular aperture and a circular suspension loop. Presumably, this segment would have fit into another segment called a toggle which is now missing. It measures 49.37mm long, 23.16mm wide at the circular eye. the circular plate is 4.95mm thick and weighs overall 9.3gms grams. Cf. Read 2008, p. 211, no. 764.
