Medieval copper alloy bolt and spring mechanism from a barb-spring padlock. It consists of the majority of a swivel loop and three arms. The thickest arm flares outwardly in plan and terminates in a knop that is the same as the one with the swivel loop on. The end of the arm, just before the knop, has a perforation (diameter 4mm narrowing to 2mm below) that is in line with the two thinner arms. These two thinner arms both have perforations (diameters 2mm), in line with the thick arm, near their terminations. These thinner arms are crossed near their ends. One prong is slightly shorter and the end indented from an earlier perforation. The mechanism is similar to those from Type C barrel padlocks from Winchester (Biddle 1991: refs: 3665-3668). Cf. Egan (1998), fig.66, no.245, 12th-13th century. Probably dates to between c1100 and c1400 AD.

The length is 39mm, the width is 33mm, thickness 11mm, and the weight 9.17g.
