A fragment of a copper alloy early Roman bracelet/armlet. Only a small section of the original 9.90mm wide strip of metal survives. Its outer face is decorated with two longitudinal raised beaded lines, each flanked on either side by a fine parallel groove and a shallow longitudinal groove is positioned behind each outer edge. There is a line of small incised dots along one edge of the outer face, but these may be the result of surface corrosion. The breaks are both fresh and relatively straight suggesting that the fragment may have been deliberately cut. There are faint traces of a white metal coating in places on the surface.
A very similar, but much more complete bracelet/armlet was found during excavations at Colchester (Crummy 1983, 37, no.1586). According to Crummy (ibid.) this style dates to the 1st or 2nd centuries AD with the more common narrower form appearing from the 3rd century AD onwards.
