A complete Medieval copper- alloy annular brooch or buckle pin (c. 1250-c. 1400).

This pin is made from a flat strip of copper-alloy that tapers towards a pointed tip. On the underside of the tip there is an undercut where it would have rested on the frame. The opposite end curls to form a loop where it would have been attached to the now missing brooch or buckle frame. About mid-way along the length of the shaft it has a thicker raised rectangular area. The upper face of this area is decorated with five stamped ring-and-dot motifs. There are traces of gilding around the rings-and-dots. The remainder of the pin is undecorated.

The pin is greenish brown and no patina has survived.

Length: 57.0mm; width of raised area: 5.8mm; thickness of raised area: 3.2mm. Weight: 6.47g.

Near identical examples dated to the 13th-15th centuries have been published (Hattatt 1989: 382, fig. 241, ref: 179; Read 1995: 63, ref: 293).
