An incomplete copper alloy mount of uncertain date. The mount is a moulded floral design with an integral stud on the reverse. The face of the mount is slightly convex and the reverse slightly concave. The middle of the mount on the face has a small drill hole which may once have held some enamel or could be related to the stud on the reverse. Just under half of the mount is missing and there are two small holes in the creases of two of the petals owing to wear.
Several similar examples have been recorded on the database, the majority of which have been dated to the Post Medieval period (see NLM-7AA3B6, LVPL-2D7069 and BERK-707D0E). However, one example, which is much closer in form to the example seen here, has been dated to the Roman period (BERK-9F3173). Owing to these wide ranging dates for a number of similar examples, no firm date has been prescribed for the mount recorded here.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 21.69mm in length, 16.71mm in width, 7.84mm in thickness and ...g in weight.
